1. People's democracy in Czechoslovakia 1945 - 1948. Decrees, postwar purification, retribution, the expulsion of Sudeten Germans. Rise of National Front and its political system. 2. Power collision of non-Communist parties with the Communists in February 1948. 3. Communist terror and murders in 1950s. Concentration camps. 4. Collectivization and the attempted destruction of the Catholic Church. 5. Third (anti-communist) resistance at home and in exile. 6. Monetary Reform and the attempt of rebellion in June 1953. 7. Recognize the new direction of post-war Czechoslovakia. Compare "folk" and real democracy. To evaluate the possibilities of non-communist forces in the struggle against the communist dictatorship. Describe methods of communist terror and compare them with methods of national socialism. Clarify the differences between the terror of the 1950s and so-called normalization. Explain the economic, social, cultural and national causes and circumstances of the attempt to reform communism (Prague Spring) and their international context. Describe and exemplify common life for normalization. Justify the domestic and international causes of the fall of the Communist dictatorship. |
