Course content
|
Acquisition of up-to-date knowledge of music theory with a focus on the chosen topic of the dissertation. The content of the course is specified each year partly jointly for the whole group of doctoral students and partly individually with regard to the professional focus of specific doctoral students, in agreement with their supervisors. The lecture focuses selectively on the latest findings in music theory. The course also includes independent work by students and group discussion of their papers. After completing the course, doctoral students are better oriented in the field of contemporary music theory and are able to conceptualize the topic of their dissertation also in music theoretical and music historical contexts. They will also become familiar with some of the practical experiences of leading musicologists and music theorists.
