Course content
In the Dissertation Seminar 1, methodological, substantive and formulation issues arising from the preparation of dissertations are discussed in detail: 1. Dissertations at the Department of Music Culture, Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen from the content point of view. Dissertation at the Department of Music Culture, Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen from the formal point of view. Examples of "appropriate" and "inappropriate" dissertation topics in music pedagogy, historiography, music theory, music aesthetics and other disciplines of musicology. 4. Examples of successful dissertations defended at the Departments of Music Education and Musicology and at the Faculty of Music and Dance of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the past decade. Examples of less successful or undefended dissertations. Preface, Introduction, Status of sources and literature, Main thematic chapters and subchapters, Conclusion, Summary (Czech, English and German), Appendices, List of sources and literature, Indexes of personal, subject, local, etc. 6. Music archives and museums, interviews with memoirs. 7. Work with literature - Czech and foreign. Criteria for scientific publication. 8. Working with the daily press as literature and as a source. 9. The most important Czech and world music encyclopaedias and terminological dictionaries as a source of music historical and theoretical knowledge. 10. 11. Music sources stored in the collections of the Czech Museum of Music, the State District Archive in Pilsen, regional archives and museums, in the estates of family members. 12. Discussion by all seminar members is guided by the seminar leader.
