Content of the lectures: Methodology of the subject. General characteristic and function of a non-artificial music (NAM). Types of NAM. Terminology. European development of NAM until its encounter with jazz. Development of NAM in Czech Republic. Jazz ? characteristics. Fundamental characteristics of musical-interpretive instruments of jazz with accent to kinetic element. Folk-lore formations of Afro-American music. Evolutionary stages of jazz music ? march jazz, Chicago style. Evolutionary stages of jazz ? New York, swing. Evolutionary stages of jazz ? bebop. Evolutionary stages of jazz ? cool jazz, west coast jazz, third stream, hard bop, soul jazz. Evolutionary stages of jazz ? free jazz, jazz rock, current jazz. Present-day popular music ? characteristics. Country music, rhythm&blues, R&R ? evolution, leading representatives, rock music of 60s, rock music of 70s.

Student should know the fundamental musical sources of jazz music, remember the fundamental traits of jazz music and describe the main stages of jazz music development and main genres of popular music until the beginning of the 70s of 20th century. Student should be able to differentiate and identify them based on a listening. |
