Course content
1. The situations in the Czech countries before the war - national and political relations 2. Franz Ferdinand d´Este, Sarajevo attempt, war outbreak, nature of the war conflict 3. The Austro-Hungarian defence power, mobilization and the reaction of the Czechs, willingness to fight for the emperor 4. 1914 - the activities of the home movement, departure of TGM into exile, establishment of Česká družina in Russia (first legionary unit), foundation of company Nazdar in France 5. 1915 - the foundation of the Mafia, Benes´s emigration, Battle of Arras, formation of the Czech National Council 6. 1916 - the expansion of the legions in Russia, debates about potential formation of the independent Czechoslovak forces in France 7. 1917 - the Battle of Zborov or the Tarnopol Withdrawal, recognition of the Czech army in France 8. 1918 - the Battles of Bakhmach, Celjabin Incident/The Revolt of Czech Legions, formation of the Czech army in Italy, Battle of Doss Alto, return of the legionnaires into the home land 9. 1918 - the formation of the National Committee (K. Kramar), Pittsburgh Agreement, Washington Declaration, Andrassy Note, declaration of the independent Czechoslovakia, Martin Declaration 10. The battles for the newly formed state - frontier conflicts, battles in Slovakia, problems of Tesin 11. The war economy - industry, trade, agriculture 12. The life, society and culture in the Czech Countries during the war clash (legionary literature, fine arts) 13. Conclusion
