Course content
|
China's relations with Europe at the turn of the 18th and 19th century. The first Opium War and the so-called opening up of China. Tchaj-pching rebellion. The second and third Opium War - the course and consequences. Restoration and Meiji reforms in Japan. Developments in China in the years 1860-1894. The causes, course and consequences of the Sino-Japanese War 1894/95. Struggle of the Great Powers for concessions and spheres of influence. Boxer Rebellion. The doctrine of "open doors" and the question of the integrity of China. Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905. China on its way from Empire to Republic. Developments in China after the establishment of the Republic. Far East and the First World War. Japanese policy in China during the First World War.
