Course content
1. End of the First World War, Versailles Conference in Washington 2. - 3. The Twenties I. - attempts to create collective security system in Europe; european policy since Genoa till Locarno, Briand - Kellog Pact, Young Plan 4. The Twenties II. - Japan and China 5. Big Economic Crises and its effects, USA and the policy of good neighbourhood 6. Europe and the world on the way to the Second World War I. - collaps of the versailles - washington system, Habesh War, civil war in spain, politics of uniform and popular front, imposition of Cominter, western powers ant the collapse of appeasement policy 7. Europe and the world on the way to the Second World War II. - japanese aggression in china, war on the Far East, escalation of tensions in the Middle Europe, Hossbach protocol, Munich agreement, pact Molotov - Ribbentrop and the beginning of the Second World War 8. Second World War - outline of the main events, rise of anti Hitler coalition and its idea of postwar ordering of the world, Yalta conference 9. Years 1945 - 1949 - Potsdam Conference, Nuremberg Trials, Fulton: Cold War and the "iron curtain", Truman doctrine (Greece and Turkey) and the policts of containment of communism, Marshall Plan, split of Europe and split of Germany: rise of FRG, GDR and soviet satelites in the Middle Europe and South-East Europe 10. Years 1949 - 1961 - main role of USA in the western world, French-german reconciliation and american - westeuropean partnership; beginnif of the european integration, Suez Crisis and its influence on "western world", continuation of tha fall of colonial system 11. International relationship in the sixties and the seventies - caribbean and berlin crisis, Arab-israeli conflicts, Vietnam, Prague Spring in the international context, China

learning outcomes
Students will create an overview of the most important events of international relations since 1914 and analyze the interactions of foreign policy of individual powers. Further they will compare foreign policy of the particular totalitarian regimes and their interactions. They will evaluate the impact of dividing of power after the Second World War on the relationship between East and West.
