Course content
Selected topics: 1. Thirty Years' War 2. Absolitism - France during the reign of Louis XIV of France and Russia during the reign of Peter I of Russia 3. England in the 17th and 18th century, Ottoman Empire on the Balkan 4. Enlightement absolutism: Prussia, Austria and Russia in the 18th century 5. French Revolution and Napoleon Bonaparte 6. Fight of american colonies for independence and American Civil War 7. Europe after the Congress of Vienna and the revolutionary year 1848 8. Unification of Italy and Germany; the First World War 9. Development in Europe between the world wars with attention to the totalitarian regimes of that time (communism, fascismo and nazism) 10. Appeasement politics and the Second World War 11. World after the SEcond World War, Cold War and the world behind the iron curtain 12. Europe on the way to economic, political and military integration (1953 - 1989) 13. Fall of the Soviet Union and communistic regimes in the Middle and East Europe
