Course content
The emergence of bipolar organization (U.S. - USSR): 1945 - beginning of 70?s. - Divided Germany. - G. Kennnan. - Marshall Plan. - Truman Doctrine. - Blockade of Berlin. - The war in Korea and Indochina. - NATO and the Warsaw Pact. - 1956 - Suez crisis and crisis in Hungary. - Berlin Wall. - Cuban Missile Crisis. - Nixon in China. - Vietnam syndrome. Cold War (70?s-80?s) - Détente - relaxation of international tension in the 70?s of the 20th century. - East policy of W. Brandt and the Helsinki Final Act. - Formation of a dissident movement in the Eastern bloc. - Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. - Strategy and consequences of policy of arms drive in the first mid 80?s. - Dissolution of Bipolarity in late 80?s. - New forms of international tension.

learning outcomes
Students will create a timeline of major historical events during the Cold War and analyze various key events in the wider context of world politics. They will compare the evolution of international relations before and after 1970 and bring the relaxation of international tension in the 70?s of the 20th century in context with the internal political situation of the East and West bloc. They will evaluate the consequences of dissolution of the bipolar world order.
