Changes in the society and the economy in the years 1918-1933. - Constitutional deficits of Weimar political system. - Political culture. - Psychological implications of war, defeat, reparations, peace treaties and hyperinflation. - Medium-term and short-term causes of crisis in the Weimar democracy. - Social and political consequences of the global economic crisis in Germany. - Analysis of the causes of electoral gains of NSDAP. - Analysis of presidia cabinets from the years 1930-1932 including backroom of appointment of Adolf Hitler to chancellor office in January 1933.

Students will create an overview of major events in the history of the Weimar Republic and analyze various aspects of its development. They will link the psychological consequences of defeat in the First World War to the political culture of the Weimar Republic. Students will evaluate the social and political consequences of the global economic crisis in Germany. They will recognize and formulate causes of electoral gains of NSDAP. |
