Course content
This course is designed for students of mechanical engineering with regard to the field of transport technology. The content of the course is to get acquainted with practical possibilities of detection and diagnostics of defects by means of diagnostic methods, systems and devices in the construction of road vehicles. An important aspect is the use of practical knowledge gained by graduates at the application level. Topics of lectures according to weeks: 1st week: Properties of measuring instruments, accuracy of measuring and instruments 2nd week: Basic characteristics of vehicles 3rd week: Causes of defects and informative value by evaluation of the condition of vehicles 4th week: Disassembly of hidden defects on the vehicle 5th week: General diagnostics, measurement and repairs of vehicle bodies 6th week: Complete diagnostics, measurement and repairs on bogie devices 7th week: General diagnostics, measurement and repairs of engines 8th week: General diagnostics, measurement and repairs of gearboxes and their temperature 9th week: Vibration and their effects on vehicle operation 10th week: Acoustic emision of vehicles (indoor, outdoor) 11th week: Ecological aspects - control of combustion, fuel and vehicle emissions 12th week: Regulations and standards for assessing the condition of vehicles 13th week: Possibilities of repairs and renovation of vehicle systems Weekly lecture contents - see Courseware.

Laboratory work
  • Contact hours - 39 hours per semester
  • Attendance on a field trip (number of real hours - maximum 8h/day) - 8 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report) (1-10) - 10 hours per semester
  • Preparation for laboratory testing; outcome analysis (1-8) - 24 hours per semester
