Course content
The course is intended for students who wish to focus on manufacturing machines and their accessories in their master theses. It focuses on the following areas: general machine structure; principles of manufacturing machine design; fundamental technical data; stiffness, dynamic stability, accuracy; fundamental technological specifications; configurations of machines, drives, frames, guides - fundamental design, computational analysis; samples of successful design; latest trends in manufacturing machine design. 1. New definitions and trends in OS building, main drive 2. Sliding systems 3. Movement axes 4. Storing of spindles 5. Clamping 6. Frames and auxiliary functions 7. Frames of forming machines (FM) - design and calculation of closed and open frame 8. Screw presses - design and calculation of press' components 9. Principles of FM construction, basic requirements, operational accuracy, overload protection, guide 10. Drive mechanisms of crank presses, division, design approaches, basic calculations 11. Overload of crank presses, multi-purpose crank presses - structural design, basic calculations 12. Drive mechanisms of hydraulic presses - division, structural solution, basic calculations

use basic knowledge of mechanics of solids and materials, machine components and fundamentals of engineering design
describe and explain possible design solutions of basic functional construction parts of production machines

to use their own knowledge from the basic engineering theoretical disciplines in solving practical problems in the field of design of production machines and equipment

recognise and formulate problems concerning design of basic parts of manufacturing machines (frames, drives, guides)
apply theoretical knowledge of mechanics of solids and materials and advanced software to manufacturing machine parts design
assess the pros and con of basic representatives of manufacturing machines
describe and explain on a higher level the possible design solutions of the basic construction parts of the production machines, frames, drives, guidance and storage and anchoring

be able to create the basic design of the selected part
formulate and solve problems related to parts of manufacturing machines and use modern software tools
to use their theoretical knowledge from machine theory to solve practical problems in designing a spindle press and a heavy lathe
