Course content
|
The course is intended to give students a good insight into the heat treatment of steels, cast irons and non-ferrous metals, attention is also paid to the equipment and design of heat treatment shops, to structures obtained by different heat treatment methods and to fundamentals of powder metallurgy. Topics of lectures: Heating and cooling of metals. Power sosurces and protecting atmospheres. Heat treatment of steels. Heat treatment of cast irons. Combined chemical and heat treatment. Heat treatment of non-ferrous alloys. Unconventional methods of heat treatment. Equipment and design of heat treatment shops. Powders - manufacture and compacting. Sintering. Technology of powder metallurgy. Visit to heat treatment shops. Topics of seminars: Introduction, quality evaluation. Temperature measurement. Heat treating atmospheres. Phase transformations. Hardenability tests. Heat treating structures -evaluation. Decomposition of supersaturated solid solutions. Combined chemical and thermal treatment. Relaxation processes. Powders - examples and evaluation. Products of powder metallurgy - examples and evaluation. Visit to heat treatment shops.
