Course content
1. The notion of international criminal law 2. Historical development of international criminal law I: Nurnberg principles 3. Historical development of international criminal law II: ad hoc and hybrid tribunals 4. International Criminal Law (substance) I: basic principles and forms of criminal responsibility, elements of crimes under international law (actus reus, mens rea) 5. International Criminal Law (substance) II: elements of crimes under international law (genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, aggression) 6. International Criminal Law (procedure): basic principles, proceedings before the International Criminal Court 7. Concept of jurisdiction (prescriptive, adjudicative, executive), principles of territoriality, personality (active and passive), and universality 8. Legal impediments (immunity, prescription, amnesty) 9. Relation between international and domestic courts (primacy, complementarity, cooperation, arrest, surrender) 10. Actual Cases before the International Criminal Court 11. Case law of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice (concurrence and complementarity) 12. Case law of the International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights (concurrence and complementarity) 13. International criminal law and the national legal system of the Czech Republic

Knowledge
Good command of English or French is also required in order to understand relevant judgements of international courts and tribunals.
Skills
Studenti by pro zapsání předmětu měli mít absolvovanou výuku mezinárodního práva veřejného, a to v rozsahu alespoň jednoho semestru tak, aby se orientovali v základních pojmech mezinárodního práva a jeho struktuře.

Knowledge
The course should enable students to understand the mechanism of international criminal law and its key concepts. It should make students aware of important legal issues and current challenges pertaining to contemporary international criminal law.
Skills
Úspěšní absolventi předmětu budou schopni aplikovat základní koncepty mezinárodního práva trestního v mezinárodním i vnitrostátním kontextu, prohloubí si schopnost studovat a rozumět rozsudkům mezinárodních soudů a tribunálů a budou vybaveni nástroji nezbytnými pro kritickou reflexi aktuálních problémů týkajících se dané právní oblasti.
