Course content
1. Slavic languages. Indo-European language. Balto-Slavic languages. Proto-Slavic language the basic characteristics. 2. Old Slavonic language the oldest standard Slavic language. 3. The historical significance of Old Slavonic language and its influence on cultural, religious and political development of Slavic people. 4. The political significance of Slavic patriotism from the 19th century to the present day. 5. The current situation of Slavic languages their diversification from the historical and comparative point of view, their typology. 6. The influence of the languages of international relations on the contemporary Slavic languages. 7. Slavic languages and the notion "national language". 8. The comparison of Slavic languages. Traditional historical and comparative criteria, criteria given by traditional structuralist typology. 9. Comparative criteria given by findings of newly created linguistic disciplines and fields, especially in the second half of the 20th century. 10. Slavic patriotism and Slavonic studies. The origin and development of the Slavonic studies, their today's internal structure. The significance of Slavonic studies and their prospects. 11. International Slavic activities, their bodies, International Committee of Slavists, national committees, the international congress of Slavists.

The knowledge of Russian language on the level of Bachelor studies. Orientation in European history.
learning outcomes
Students gain the knowledge of the development of Slavonic languages. Students are able to explain chosen grammatical forms of contemporary Russian language. Students are able to orientate themselves in the problematic of the Slavonic studies and to name significant linguists.
