Course content
1.The historical and social context of the 19th century in Russia and its influence on art. 2.The historical and social context of the 20th century in Russia and its influence on art. 3.Specific features of the development of Russian literature, place of Russian literature in the European context. Official, samizdat and exile literature. 4.Relationship between literature and ideology, importance of literary criticism, creative and normative criticism. 5.Role of literature in the 19th century, writer?s role. Censorship in the 19th and 20th centuries. 6.Main representatives of Russian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. 7.Main representatives of Russian literature of the 20th century. 8.Literary movements in Russian literature of the 19th century (sentimentalism, romanticism, critical realism). 9.Literary movements in Russian literature of the 20th century (akmeism, imazhinism etc.). 10. Reading, translation and analysis of chosen literary texts (Bunin, Petrushevskaya etc.).
