Course content
1. Basic terms of the subject. The language as a sign system. Language functions. The system of functional styles. The language and speech. 2. Communication characteristics of speaking: vocabulary richness, purity, precision, intelligibility. 3. Communication characteristics of speaking: expressiveness, suitability, accuracy. 4. Definition of the language standard. Types of language standards. Variants of standards. Standard and Russian dictionaries. 5. Orthoepic standard of Russian language. 6. Lexical standards of Russian language. 7. Morphological standards of the Russian language. 8. Syntactic standards of Russian language. 9. Current trends of the development of Russian language. 10. Speech as a monologue. The basic stages of preparation for public performances. 11. Five-minute speech in the classroom. 12. Analysis of the speech. Students use current Russian in various spheres of its use, and in speaking and writing. They analyze language standards of different types. They describe active processes in contemporary Russian language.
