1. Quantitative and qualitative methods. Relation of quantitative and qualitative methods. Validity and reliability. 2. Ethnography. Fieldwork. What is ethnography. Sociological and social anthropological tradition. 3. Anthropological fieldwork: a classic model. Development of fieldwork in the British social and the American cultural anthropology. 4. Methodological turn. Reflexivity. Critique of the classic fieldwork model. Reflexivity, subjectivity and the political dimension of fieldwork. 5. Methodological pitfalls of anthropological fieldwork. Formulation of research proposal. Stages of fieldwork. Culture shock. Adaptation. Types of fieldnotes. 6. Identity of a researcher in the field. Anthropologist as a research tool: gender, sexuality.
