Course content
1. Introduction. What is the kinship. History and importance of the studies of kinship in the social anthropology. 2. Genealogy and genealogical method. 3. Origins of kinship studies 4. Kinship terminologies 5. Taboo of incest. Definition of marriage. 6. Endogamy a exogamy. Indian caste systém: concept of purity and hierarchy. 7. Typology of marriages. Economical aspects of marriage. Postmarital residence. 8. Descendence and filiation. Unilinear descendence. 9. Criticism of the "lineage theory". Bilateral/cognatic descendence. 10. Aliance theory. 11. House and the societies of house. 12. David Schneider and kinship as a cultural system. 13. Biology, substance and kinship. Kinship and the new technologies of reproduction.
