Course content
1. Film and audiovisual education as a means to develop specific levels of visual and audiovisual literacy. Film and audiovisual education in the Czech Republic and abroad, history and present. 2. Expressive means of film and specific features of film production technology (theme, script and forms of previsualization, visual and special effects, directing, editing and post-production, motion design, etc.) and its reflection in education. 3. The importance of semiotic and neo-formalist analysis of film art, including narrative and non-narrative forms - issues of interpretation of film work in education. 4. Educational practice with audiovisual material - methods and forms. 5. Reflection on non-narrative, experimental, documentary, musical and advertising forms of audiovisual art. 6. The origins of film and film narrative (Lumiere, G. Melies, W. D. Griffith, S. Ejzenstein). 7. Expressionism, impressionism and surrealism in film in the 1920s. Absolute film. 8. Film genre. History of Hollywood and new genres (western, gangster film, musical, thriller, comedy). Production companies, studio system, major personalities and most important films. 9. Film art of the 1940s and 1950s - personalities of F. Fellini and M. Antonioni, O. Welles and Bergman's poetics. The "New Wave of Czechoslovak Film" in the 1960s, personalities and aesthetics of the work. Period film by F. Vláčil. 10. Postmodernism in cinema (D. Lynch, Q. Tarantino). Postmodern tendencies in narration and visuality. 11. Types and principles of documentary filmmaking, important personalities of Czech documentary. 12. Music video as an important part of audiovisual art. 13. The concept of video art and the meaning of video art, forms and important representatives in the Czech Republic and in the world.
