1. Art, artists and their audience. Introduction to the subject and introduction to the field. Basic periodisation, techniques and terminology 2.Prehistoric art and its reflection. Prehistoric and primitive peoples 3.Ancient Near East, Egypt and Crete 4. The Greek miracle. Geometric period, art of city states, classical Greece, late classicism. Architecture, sculpture, painting, arts and crafts. 5. Hellenism. Expression and movement. Art of the time of Alexander of Macedon. 6. Etruscan and Roman art. Art for eternity, dynamics of terracotta and bronze, architecture, sculpture, painting, Greek copies, portraiture, mosaics, perfection of illusion. 7. Early Christian Art. Pagan tradition, the Christian world and Jewish art. Byzantium: canon and dialogue. 8. The early Middle Ages. Anglo-Saxon art, Irish and Norse art, Carolingian Renaissance and Ottonian Renaissance. Mutual encounters and encounters. 9. Romanesque art in Bohemia and Europe. Architecture, wall and book painting, sculpture. Art associated with monastic orders, Bohemian Romanesque sculpture, Bohemian Romanesque painting, sculpture of the Premyslid period. 10. Gothic Europe.
