Course content
The subject of morphology. Formal and functional morphology. Parts of speech, criteria of classification and conversion. Primary and secondary functions of parts of speech. Grammatical means of nouns, dynamism of relations between the singular and the plural and meanings of the cases. Nouns, adjectives, pronouns and numerals. Analytic, synthetic, finite and non-finite verb forms. Grammatical means of verbs. Verb classification. Description of conjugational types. Uninflectional parts of speech. Contemporary development trends in morphology. Lectures: 1. Objects of the research of morphology. 2. Parts of speech and their conversion. 3. Grammatical category of case, semantics of the particular cases, contemporary development trends. 4. Grammatical categories of number and gender. 5. Declension of substantives. Trends in contemporary declension. 6. Adjectives. 7. Pronouns. 8. Numerals. 9. Verbs - grammatical categories. 10. Verbs - forms. 11. Verbs - characteristic of contemporary conjugation. 12. Adverbs. 13. Prepositions and conjunctions. 14. Particles and interjections. Seminars: 1. Morphemic analysis of the word - nouns. 2. Morphemic analysis of the word - verbs. 3. Parts of speech analysis, understanding of criteria of the classification, function and auto-semantic words. Conversion. 4. Grammatical categories of substantives. Meaning of cases. Working with a text. 5. Grammatical categories of substantives. Dynamism of relations between the singular and plural of substantives. Working with a text. 6. Use of the correct forms in texts. Synthetic and analytic forms; finite and non-finite forms. 7. Grammatical categories of verbs. Secondary function of their personal forms. 8. Adjectives and types of their declension. Working with a text. 9. Pronouns and use of their correct forms in the text. 10. Numerals. Use of their correct forms. New approaches to numeral classification. 11. Practical usage of verb forms in texts with focus on the forms required by Czech standards. 12. Identification of verb classes. Test. 13. Uninflectional parts of speech and their classification. Conversion.
